Abstract

This study aimed to propose and validate a user-centred design case study of anovel gesture-based pointing device based on the implementation of the usercentreddesign approach, and in turn to recommend ergonomic design guidelinesfor future study. The comprehensive literature in the area of user-centred designwas reviewed. The context of use was defined based on a proposed ‘STEPC’approach and two versions of the engineering mock-up were designed andvalidated. The usability problems of version I were greatly diminished in versionII as a result of changes made in response to user-feedback. Finally, the resultfindings are discussed, the problems occurred during the study are highlighted, and ergonomic design guidelines are recommended for future study.
